Requirements for the Bachelor of Applied Science
Students with a recognized undergraduate degree, from UBC or elsewhere, may be eligible to pursue a B.A.Sc. as a second degree if the programs offered by the School of Engineering are sufficiently distinct from the discipline(s) of the first degree.
For a second degree, students must satisfy all School of Engineering requirements with a combination of first- and second-degree credits and must earn a minimum of 50% of the credits required while enrolled at UBC Okanagan in their second-degree program. The requirements imposed by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board will likely increase the percentage of courses required to be taken at UBC. For the B.A.Sc., this will mean earning at least 72 new credits; more will likely be required if the lower-level requirements of the B.A.Sc. were not fulfilled with first-degree studies. It is expected that previous degrees will not satisfy any upper-level School of Engineering requirements.
Courses from previous degrees are not transferred for credit but can be used to exempt students from degree requirements. The School of Engineering reserves the right not to grant exemptions if the course(s) in question were completed five or more years prior to starting the second-degree B.A.Sc. program or if the courses do not meet the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board requirements.
Students admitted to a second degree must consult UBC Okanagan Academic and Career Advising regarding specific second-degree requirements prior to commencing the program.
