UBC calculates grade averages based on a weighted average calculation. The process to calculate a weighted grade average for a group of courses is as follows:
- For each course in a group of selected courses, multiply the course grade by the number of credits for that particular course.
- Total the calculations from step 1 for all selected courses.
- Total the number of credits for all selected courses.
- Divide the sum calculated in step 2 by the sum calculated in step 3.
Sample calculation
Step 1 | Result |
BIOL_O 116: 75% x 3 credits | 225 |
CHEM_O 201: 80% x 3 credits | 240 |
ENGL_O 209: 79% x 3 credits | 237 |
CULT_O 310: 88% x 6 credits | 528 |
PHIL_O 220: 82% x 3 credits | 246 |
Step 2 | |
225 + 240 + 237 + 528 + 264 | 1,476 |
Step 3 | |
3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 6 | 18 |
Step 4 | |
1,476 / 18 | 82.0% |
