Theme Requirements
Master of Arts (M.A.)
The M.A. degree requires completion of:
- IGS_O 502 (3),
- IGS_O 501 (3) or IGS_O 506 (3) (or another 3 credit methods course approved by the supervisory committee),
- IGS_O 524 (3),
- A minimum of 9 additional credits of coursework,
- A 12-credit research-based thesis (IGS_O 599).
Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)
The Ph.D. degree requires completion of:
- IGS_O 502 (3),
- IGS_O 501 (3) or IGS_O 506 (3) (or another 3 credit methods course approved by the supervisory committee),
- IGS_O 524 (3),
- A minimum of 3 additional credits of coursework.
For students who have taken these courses as part of their M.A. program, suitable alternatives will be determined by the theme coordinator in consultation with the student’s supervisory committee.
The Ph.D. degree also requires completion of a substantial, original research-based dissertation (IGS_O 699) under the supervision of a faculty member in the Theme.
Ph.D. students are required to present a research proposal and pass a comprehensive oral examination designed to assess the student's breadth of knowledge in the general subject area(s) of the proposed research.
